When Spontaneous Sexual Attraction Happens
I wait for someone to come out of the back.
My son reads the menu by the cash for future reference.
Finally a man appears. “Are you picking up?” he asks.
I look at him, “I want to order.”
“What can I get you?”
“The Shaqaroni,” I say.
“Okay,” he says.
Eye contact would have naturally broken by now. But our eyes stay locked.
My son nudges me, “don’t you want jalapenos on your half?”
“Ah yes, can you put jalapenos on one half?”
The pizza guy nods. Eye contact breaks as he goes to punch my order in.
“How long will it take?”
He keeps his head down, “about 15 minutes.”
I take out my wallet.
“Just pay when you pick it up,” he says and looks at me again.
I stare back and nod. I feel tension building.
A few seconds pass. I break eye contact and quickly leave.
I walk around the block with my son. It’s June. I find it impossible to walk around in Florida during the day. Too hot. But late evenings are pleasant.
