He was in the gifted class. He used big words like “texture.” I know it doesn’t seem like a big word, but English was a second language to me, and texture was a big word. He was very eloquent and used many big words. He had blond hair and blue eyes and a deep voice.

I noticed once that he comes to school early. So I started to come to school early. The doors of the Junior High opened around 7am. By 7:20am I was there. Students who came early hung around the cafeteria. He and I were usually the first ones there. He played the piano by the stage. I sat close by and drew in my sketch pad. He would come and look at my drawings. I couldn’t wait for him to come near. He smelled nice. He was the only boy in school who wore cologne. The top button of his shirt was always opened. His sleeves always rolled up like that of a politician pretending to work.

He told me he wanted to be an architect. I told him I love architecture. I looked up architecture in the library. I saw that he had taken out a book on architecture. I took out the same book. I never returned it. You see, it had his name in it. It was hand written by him. I still have the book.
