Smell The Paper Bag Before You Put The Croissant Or Baguette In It
This Happened To Me
“What do you mean I have to throw it away?” My son looks at me.
“I am sorry but it smells moldy. It’s not fresh.”
“It was just baked! That doesn’t make sense!”
My son went to the bakery with the neighbors. He bought the baguette with his own allowance. I don’t buy bread often. I try to keep the home free of junk food. But this was the weekend and a baguette he really wanted.
“I can’t let you eat that.”
My son stared at me. He looked distraught. I feared he doubted me.
“Let’s go to the bakery and see what is going on!” I said.
He nodded.
The bakery was busy. There were baguettes and croissants and all sorts of breads on the rack. I didn’t want to look inappropriate, but I needed to smell the breads. “Stand here,” I whispered to my son. “Poke me if anyone looks this way or approaches.”
While no one was looking I leaned over and smelled a baguette. It smelled wonderful. Then I smelled a big French bread. It smelled so good. And then I sniffed the croissants. Absolute heaven.
“Well?” My son whispered at me.
